Mastercard Agent Pay, launched in April 2025, pioneers agentic payments technology through Agentic Tokens—dynamic digital credentials that empower AI agents to transact safely and transparently on behalf of consumers. Using the same tokenization technology that secures mobile and online payments today, Agent Pay requires trusted AI agents to be registered and verified before making secure payments. Users maintain full control through customizable permissions and limits for each transaction, even recurring ones. By the 2025 holiday season, all U.S. Mastercard cardholders were enabled for Agent Pay, with global rollout following. The platform includes an Agent Toolkit via Mastercard Developers with Model Context Protocol (MCP) server support.
